What is an "online academy?"
The Mesa Online Academy is a public school where students are taught by taking a significant amount of instruction via a computer and other electronic means. Students will be instructed in the use of a technology-based program and will have the option of receiving their courses at home after review and assessment by Mesa Instructional Support staff.

What are you providing?

Who is eligible for enrollment?
Enrollment is open to all students living outside the state of New Mexico, including home-schooled students.

Who are you serving?
We have found that all types of students are benefiting from our services: those who are trying to get ahead by taking advanced courses or additional courses to graduate early, those who need to make up credits for failed courses in order to graduate with their classes, and those who need remedial help in reading or mathematics. We also serve students whose career focus or extracurricular activities interfere with traditional school attendance expectations due to travel. Another special population being served is the group of students with chronic medical conditions, which often make it difficult to attend a traditional school. (back)

How much is tuition?
Tuition rates for the Mesa Online Academy are as follows:

$1200.00	Full time student 6 credits per year 24 credits to graduate
$225.00	per credit hour

3 Month Payment Plan: $400.00 per month
6 Month Payment Plan: $200.00 per month

What are "student-centered services" and Instructional Supervisors?
Each student is evaluated to determine the appropriate level of the course for which the student should enroll. Individual progress is monitored on a weekly or bi-weekly basis as determined by the Instructional Supervisor.

The heart of the learning process within the Mesa Online Academy is the Instructional Supervisor. The "IS" will be the advocate for the student, and the primary contact for issues that relate to his or her education. It is the responsibility of the Instructional Supervisor, with parent support and cooperation, to assure the success of your child. (back)

Will Roy Municipal Schools grant credit for Mesa Online Academy?
Absolutely; all courses taken via the Mesa Online Academy will be provided the same academic weight as those courses taken at the traditional school(s). (back)

What are the attendance and exam expectations?
Every Mesa Online Academy student will be required to log onto their classes four or more times per week to meet attendance requirements. Students must not access quizzes and tests until they are ready to complete them; if a quiz or test document is "opened" prior to completion, it will be locked with a grade of zero. All final exams must be administered by a certified Mesa Online Academy teacher. (back)

Can my child participate in extracurricular activities?
No, out-of-state students are not eligible to participate in extracurricular activities, such as sports, prom, etc due to state regulations. (back)

How involved do I need to be as a parent?
As educators, we have found that success is directly related to parental involvement. Your student has a better opportunity to succeed when you take part in the educational process. Parents of our students have shared with us that they have learned a lot from the online platform. Every moment is a "teachable" moment. (back)
